New take-off towards the Pro Tour

This weekend it has begun the new season of qualifying tournaments for the first Pro Tour of 2018 – professional championship that occurs only four times a year.

Unlike GPs, which are open to any participant, Pro Tours are closed tournaments for high-end players – both those who win the qualifying places and the professionals who are invited because of their performance.

DISCOUNT FOR THE FIRST VACANCIES – In Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia there were about 150 players, adding the Saturday and Sunday tournaments in the Magic Store Brasil and Inside Games, all in the Modern format. Despite the momentary predilection for Death Shadow, Affinity and Tron, who together had about 1/3 of these fields, the champions were Bant Collected, Jeskai Geist and Living End, as well as a copy of Affinity. In São Paulo there were 140 players this weekend, in tournaments at Domain Games and Bazar de Bagdá.

Wesley Raposo, who piloted the Jeskai winner of yesterday’s tournament in Brasilia, estimates that the deck is well positioned in the field. “I think he has a favorable match against Affinity and a very balanced against Grixis Shadow”, he says.

Raposo, as always, made the list of his own head, evolving the build he used at GP Porto Alegre 2015. “I like playing with decks together, so I looked for one that was strong against the unfair decks of the format”, he says. Two years ago he decided to cut Serum Visions. “I think it’s a good card, but at turn one I need to use the mana in another way, either to remove a creature from Affinity, or to undo something unfair with Spell Snare when I’m on the draw”, he explains.

Players who have won places until July 2 will compete in qualifying tournaments for the Pro Tour Ixalan between August 12 and 20; Those who won this weekend need to wait for the release of the next qualifying dates.
